Grief Support
People deal with grief in their own way and in their own time. There is no way to avoid the grief which floods us when we have experienced a major loss. It is a journey that you have to take, but remember that you are never taking that journey alone. Most important in the grieving process is keeping the lines of communication open. Understand that sharing your emotions and feelings with others will help you on your path to healing. Let others lend you their help and support until your own strength and courage return. Hillcrest Funeral Home has a number of services we can provide you to help you cope with your grief.

I’ve been in the social work and support field since the 80’s. I worked as a social service worker for many years and finally completed my Bachelor of Social Work in 2003. A big part of my career was in corrections which I loved at the time and I have worked in family services, long term care, elder abuse, children’s grief, sexual abuse agencies, walk in counselling clinics and with a mobile crisis team. I like to describe my work history as eclectic so what you tell me is not going to be shocking, unnerving, or “weird”.
I have served on many agency boards serving individuals affected by trauma and I received an award for my work in the elder abuse field. I am happy to say that several years ago I graduated with my master’s degree in Social work at the ripe old age of 55. I like to say that I am a late bloomer. It’s never too late to do what you want to do.

My goal is to create a safe place in which my clients can be honest and open about the challenges they are facing. I focus on building trust and connection in my relationship with each person, as I believe that the quality of the therapeutic relationship is the most important component of therapy being a success.
