Grief Support
People deal with grief in their own way and in their own time. There is no way to avoid the grief which floods us when we have experienced a major loss. It is a journey that you have to take, but remember that you are never taking that journey alone. Most important in the grieving process is keeping the lines of communication open. Understand that sharing your emotions and feelings with others will help you on your path to healing. Let others lend you their help and support until your own strength and courage return. Hillcrest Funeral Home has a number of services we can provide you to help you cope with your grief.

I’ve been in the social work and support field since the 80’s. I worked as a social service worker for many years and finally completed my Bachelor of Social Work in 2003. A big part of my career was in corrections which I loved at the time and I have worked in family services, long term care, elder abuse, children’s grief, sexual abuse agencies, walk in counselling clinics and with a mobile crisis team. I like to describe my work history as eclectic so what you tell me is not going to be shocking, unnerving, or “weird”.
I have served on many agency boards serving individuals affected by trauma and I received an award for my work in the elder abuse field. I am happy to say that several years ago I graduated with my master’s degree in Social work at the ripe old age of 55. I like to say that I am a late bloomer. It’s never too late to do what you want to do.

My goal is to create a safe place in which my clients can be honest and open about the challenges they are facing. I focus on building trust and connection in my relationship with each person, as I believe that the quality of the therapeutic relationship is the most important component of therapy being a success.

Articles on Grief
The death of someone we care about can be one of the most difficult experiences in life. Words fail to describe how painful the grief we feel can be. It is more challenging than we, or others, might expect.
These articles are meant to describe different types of grief; their intent is to help you understand your own, or to help you empathize with another person's grief.
These articles were written by Dr Bill Webster, our Director of Grief Education, and are part of a comprehensive library available on our Grief Journey web portal. Dr Bill is the founder and executive director of the Centre for the Grief Journey. He earned his doctorate at the University of Toronto in 1990, and has been awarded a prestigious fellowship in thanatology by the Association of Death Education and Counselling (ADEC).
Dr Bill`s knowledge of grief exists not just in theory, but from a very difficult personal experience. In 1983, Bill`s young wife died suddenly of a heart attack. Her passing left him in the difficult situation of coping with immense loss while raising his two sons, who were only seven and nine when their mother died. Dr Bill has become a recognized author, and a renowned international speaker and seminar leader who draws from 30 years of experience in the field of grief support and counselling.
